A study attempted to evaluate the effect of an almond-enriched low calorie diet on body composition and metabolism in a weight reduction program. The results showed that supplementation with almonds was, in contrast to complex carbohydrates, is associated with greater reductions in weight and BMI, waist circumference, fat mass, total body water and systolic blood pressure.


 According to the study, as reported by Green Med Info:

 "[The] results suggest that an almond-enriched preponderance of [low-calorie diet] one of the anomalies with the metabolic syndrome improves Almond connected complement to ... ... a novel alternative to self-selected complex carbohydrates and a possible role in reducing the public health consequences of obesity. "

In related news, another study found dating as far back as 2002 that almonds can be used as snacks, significantly reduce coronary risk factor for heart disease, probably because of the healthy ingredients .. the mother
